On April 18, 2015, a driver in Sarthe, France, reported red lights in the sky. While driving, his son drew his attention to a red light, and looking in the rearview mirror, the witness saw six to seven bright red-orange spheres. They moved in formation and seemed to follow the vehicle. After stopping, the witness continued to observe until the lights disappeared, except for one, and managed to take some photos.
The GEIPAN classified the case as "B," suggesting a probable explanation. The spheres moved from northeast to northwest, matching the wind recorded in the area. Given the context of a weekend night and the movement pattern, investigators concluded it was likely Thai lanterns launched after a private celebration. Although the phenomenon was brief, its description and trajectory fit this explanation.
