Summary

On March 5, 2016, a witness in France noticed a stationary bright point in the sky. Looking through a telescope, they described beams of blue, violet, and white light. Their spouse also saw it, thinking it was a bright star or planet. However, astronomical data show that at that time and direction, it could only have been Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky. The observation was made at a low elevation and through a window, which can distort color and brightness perception. The GEIPAN concluded that the witness had misidentified Sirius, a common occurrence under similar conditions.
