Summary

On July 6, 2015, two people in Chambéry observed between 15 and 20 pink-orange light points moving silently in a line toward Aix-Les-Bains. The phenomenon lasted 10 to 15 seconds, and only one witness account was collected. Although the observer did not recognize the objects, the report suggests they could be Thai lanterns released after a private party. These lanterns, powered by a large candle flame, are naturally dim and often appear farther away and faster than they actually are. The light southerly wind recorded that day in the area is consistent with the observed movement.

GEIPAN classified this case as "B," meaning a likely observation of terrestrial objects. Thai lanterns, when released one after another, can form organized lines that resemble flying objects. The witness, lacking prior experience with such objects, could not accurately estimate the distance. The videos mentioned by the witness also align with what would be expected from a lantern release.
