In 1947, an unofficial Soviet commission called the "UFO Section of the All-Union Astronautics Committee" was established to conduct preliminary scientific investigations of UFOs. Based in Moscow, this group aimed to study these mysterious aerial phenomena, particularly those that exhibited unusual behaviors. Observers noted that UFOs often appeared near airfields and avoided direct contact, suggesting a possible intelligent origin.
One of the most famous cases examined was the Tunguska meteorite. Soviet scientists concluded that the event shared characteristics with an atmospheric nuclear explosion, sparking debates about its true nature. Initially thought to be a meteorite, further studies cast doubt on this theory. The study of UFOs raised new questions and highlighted the need for a more organized and comprehensive approach to understanding these enigmatic occurrences.
