Summary

On August 23, 2015, two witnesses observed a luminous object moving at a constant speed, though it changed direction several times. Although initially intriguing, the case was not considered particularly strange. However, the detailed and coherent information provided by the witnesses increased the credibility of the report. After a more thorough investigation, it was determined that the observed phenomenon was likely a satellite. Two candidates were identified: the IGS 5 H2A rocket, whose brightness matched the object, and the Iridium 16, an out-of-control satellite whose trajectory and speed were compatible with the observation. Although the GEIPAN classified the case as a misinterpretation involving satellites, some uncertainty remains about which one was the actual cause.
