In March 2015, a witness in France observed a black oval-shaped object while driving on the D112 near Lavalette. The object, reflecting sunlight and leaving a small white trail, disappeared when the witness tried to take a photo with his phone. Although the report suggests it could be a captive solar balloon, the sudden disappearance created some mystery. The witness described the scene in detail, including the exact location and a photo that helped investigators analyze the case.
The GEIPAN classification as a type B case indicates it is likely a solar balloon observation. However, the lack of additional witnesses and the inability to see the balloon operator contributed to the sense of mystery. The most plausible explanation is that the balloon descended quickly due to weather conditions or possible disintegration, becoming hidden among trees. Although the analysis concludes it is not an unexplained phenomenon, the case remains interesting due to the precise testimony and consistency with known objects.
