On September 13, 2015, a witness in Cazères (France) observed a pale yellow, spherical luminous phenomenon that appeared and disappeared three times. The object moved erratically and made no noise. The witness recorded a 1 minute and 34-second video, but only one testimony was collected. Despite the GEIPAN noting factors such as color, brightness, and erratic movement similar to lanterns, the witness rejected the explanation, claiming they know what lanterns look like. However, the report points out that lanterns viewed from afar can appear very different.
The B classification by GEIPAN suggests a conventional explanation, but no local investigation was launched to identify potential responsible parties. Small lantern releases, such as at private events, are hard to trace in urban areas. Although the witness dismissed the hypothesis, the report highlights that the observational data align with lantern behavior. No other explanations were pursued, but the case is not considered unexplained.
