Summary

On June 5, 2015, a witness in Schiltigheim observed two dark, round objects in a clear sky from their fourth-floor balcony. The first appeared stable, while the second slowly traced an arc around it. The witness recorded the phenomenon for several minutes and decided to approach by car, but lost sight of the objects due to a technical issue with the footage. Despite being a single testimony, the videos are crucial to understanding the case. Analysis suggests the objects were two hot air balloons, whose gondolas were not clearly distinguishable from the balloons themselves due to distance.

The reconstructed trajectories, using specialized software, showed a consistent drift to the left of the witness, typical of wind-borne objects. Additionally, the observed reduction in angular height aligns with night landing regulations. Although the exact origin could not be confirmed, the proximity of tourist balloon companies in the area makes it plausible the balloons originated from Kehl or Offenbourg. The GEIPAN classified the case as "A," meaning it was explained as conventional human activity. Despite the unusual appearance, the consistency of the recordings and alignment with available data make this a simple and plausible explanation.
