UFO in Meuse 2015, Observation of red lights

Summary

In October 2015, a witness in the French region of Meuse observed between three and four luminous, circular objects of an orange-red color, moving silently in a straight line from north to south. The phenomenon lasted about 15 minutes and was captured in blurry photographs due to handheld night shooting. Although no other witnesses were found, investigators considered the possibility that these were Thai lanterns released after a private celebration. The north wind recorded in the area supports this hypothesis. Additionally, the timing coincided with school holidays, which could explain such an event on a weekday.

The photos, though blurry, clearly showed the orange hue typical of lanterns. Initially classified as probable, the case was upgraded to category A after the gendarmerie confirmed a lantern release following a funeral. This confirmed the observation as a definite sighting of Thai lanterns in motion. The final eastward direction could be explained by a local wind in the Ruppes stream valley.
