🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
On April 12, 2017, a witness in Saint-Briec observed a bright round object slowly moving across the sky. He filmed and photographed the phenomenon, but only one testimony was collected. After investigation, it was found that the object could be a weather balloon launched from Brest-Guipavas. These balloons are released twice daily and can reach altitudes of 20 km, making it very likely that the object seen was one of them. The GEIPAN classified the case as B, indicating it is probably a known object.
The coincidence between the time of the sighting and the scheduled launches supports this explanation. Although the witness did not initially mention a weather balloon, the location and time are consistent with a launch at the same UTC hour. This shows how meteorological data can help resolve seemingly unexplained UFO cases.
