Summary

In June 1947, a witness in Bakersfield, California, spotted ten unidentified flying objects in a V formation, with one trailing behind. Later, the same group returned with only seven objects. The observer, an experienced pilot, described the objects as round, without visible wings or propellers, and compared their appearance to images of the "flying flapjack," a Navy experimental plane that supposedly never left Connecticut. Despite his expertise, he couldn't identify the objects with certainty. Subsequent investigations found no physical evidence or records of the people mentioned, adding mystery to the case.

The Air Defense Command also received similar reports from other parts of the country, including Oregon, where witnesses described similar objects. Although conventional explanations like balloons or reflections were considered, none were confirmed. The Bakersfield case became one of the first notable UFO reports in history, highlighting the confusion and public interest of the time.
