In August 2016, a witness and his partner observed two slow-moving, silent luminous objects. One of them took a photo with his camera, which later showed strange light trails. Initially, the witness thought it was an unexplained phenomenon, but investigators concluded it was a Thai lantern. The flight pattern, direction, and shutdown behavior matched typical lanterns. However, the photo generated confusion due to a technical error: the flash stopped quickly, but the exposure continued, creating light trails the witness interpreted as supernatural. This case highlights how lighting and movement can create misleading images.
The GEIPAN classification as "A" (photographic artifact) shows the confusion came not from the phenomenon itself, but from the image interpretation. The witness, excited by what he thought was an UFO, didn't consider that his movement during the long exposure caused the "flagella" effect. This case is an example of how technology and perception can interact to create experiences that seem inexplicable, but actually have a natural cause.
