UFO in Villefranche-sur-Mer 2016

Summary

On August 21, 2016, around 11:30 PM, a witness in Villefranche-sur-Mer observed a luminous phenomenon entering the atmosphere with a white, green, and orange glow. Shortly after, they noticed about twenty objects blinking in a synchronized rhythm, all ascending together in the sky. The phenomenon crossed the sky silently. A neighbor also saw it, but only one testimony was collected. The GEIPAN concluded that the first phenomenon was likely a small meteor entering the atmosphere. The second, however, caught the witness's attention due to its difference. It is believed to have been LED balloons released from a boat at sea. With an east wind, the balloons moved toward land, forming a large pattern in the sky. LED balloons can emit various colors, blink, or change color in a random or synchronized way. The summer season favors such festive events. The witness, not being a local, experienced this for the first time.
