On the night of August 7, 2016, a witness in Jarcieu observed two red or orange oval-shaped lights. From his garden, he described how the lights moved slowly in waves, without noise or trail, and became smaller at the end. The phenomenon lasted about 30 seconds, and the witness sketched their path. Although he mentioned the lights heading southwest, the drawing showed a direction toward the northwest. The observation coincides with a calm and festive summer night, typical for such events.
The GEIPAN classified the case as "B," meaning likely Thai-style lanterns. These lanterns are common during festivals and are characterized by their color, movement, and lack of noise. Additionally, the light wind blowing north in the area could explain the observed trajectory. The witness, concerned about not finding other testimonies, found no confirmation online. However, the data align with typical features of such events, making the conventional explanation the most plausible.
