On December 18, 2016, three people in Saint-Rome-de-Tarn observed a very bright object moving silently across the night sky. The phenomenon briefly stopped above a building before disappearing to the north. The intense white light faded as the object vanished into the fog. A single witness account collected in 2017 suggests it might have been a Thai lantern. The described features, such as the round shape and bright glow, match this type of object.
Moreover, the prevailing wind that night came from the northeast, aligning with the observed movement. The area, near a major river, experiences variable air currents that could explain the object's irregular path. Given it was a festive Christmas night, such light releases are common. The GEIPAN classified the case as B, indicating a likely conventional observation.
