🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In 1947, a prospector in Portland, Oregon, reported seeing several disc-shaped objects in the sky. According to his account, he observed the objects for several seconds through a telescope and noticed that the needle on his special watch was moving erratically. The report, part of Project 10073, notes that the observer mentioned he had read about another sighting in the days prior, suggesting possible psychological influence on his report. Additionally, the witness linked the erratic behavior of the compass to extremely large magnetic fields, without fully understanding the physical implications. This raised doubts about the authenticity of his experience.
Analysts concluded that, with the limited information available, it was impossible to determine the true nature of the objects. It was highlighted that the magnitude of the magnetic fields required to explain the compass behavior would be unusually high, comparable to the Earth's magnetic field. However, it was also noted that such fields would not be reliable or predictable due to local variations. The case was considered ambiguous, with psychological and physical factors at play, but without a definitive explanation.
