🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
On May 25, 2017, a witness in Drôme observed a white, yellow, and blue light in the sky at low altitude. Intrigued, he recorded the phenomenon with a camcorder. Upon reviewing the footage, he noticed unusual shapes that caught his attention. The object remained visible until the early hours of the morning, without producing any sound or trail. The witness identified the star Capella, whose position matched the description. However, the GEIPAN concluded that the perception of strangeness was due to optical and technical effects from the camera, such as reflections, distortions from focusing or equipment quality. The observed light was nothing more than Capella, warm and familiar, though filtered through the atmosphere and the lens. This case illustrates how technological tools can transform the ordinary into the inexplicable, especially when their operation is not fully understood.
