Summary

A UFO case in Polienas, France, from June 10, 2017, was investigated by the GEIPAN. A couple observed two bright, twinkling points from their terrace. Using binoculars and a telescope, they described spherical shapes with a gyroscope-like motion. Later, they saw more objects in another direction, but nothing changed significantly. After multiple observations, investigators concluded these were stars from the constellations of Scorpius and the Eagle. The perception of movement and color was due to their proximity to the horizon and atmospheric effects. The consistency of the testimony and the repetition of observations indicated a misinterpretation of astronomical phenomena.

The key was comparing the positions and configurations with star maps. The witnesses mistakenly estimated the height of the objects, thinking they were at 45-50 degrees, when in reality they were near 10-15 degrees. This, along with the apparent movement of stars, created the illusion of stationary or slow-moving objects. The case was classified as "A," meaning a misinterpretation of natural phenomena. No unexplained phenomena were found, and all anomalies were reasonably explained.
