🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
On May 3, 2018, a witness in Gironde observed a fixed light in the sky that began moving in an unusual way. The light changed color and moved left, right, up, and down without making any sound. The witness recorded the phenomenon for 3 to 4 minutes. Although it seemed strange, the GEIPAN concluded it was likely Jupiter. The position, color, and movement were explained by atmospheric effects and known optical phenomena.
The detailed explanation points out that the perception of movement was due to atmospheric effects and visual autokinetic illusion. Additionally, high humidity and fluctuations in light intensity can create optical illusions. Finally, the witness stopped observing when a cloud passed in front of the light. This case was classified as "A" by the GEIPAN, indicating a very probable identification of an astronomical object.
