🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
In January 1984, two witnesses traveling on the A9 near Nîmes noticed an unidentified aerial phenomenon (PAN) following them for about 20 kilometers. Initially classified as D (unexplained), this case was later reviewed by the GEIPAN and reclassified. The witnesses reported two distinct PANs: one visible to both and another seen only by one of them. The first did not match any known phenomenon, but due to a lack of reliable data and conflicting descriptions, the GEIPAN downgraded it to C (insufficient information). The second PAN turned out to be a misidentification of the star Aldebaran, explained by an optical illusion caused by the vehicle's movement. Although the case does not confirm extraterrestrial presence, it highlights how scientific review can provide new interpretations of old observations.
