🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
On December 2, 2018, a driver noticed two bright red points in the overcast sky. Upon arriving at his destination, he took photos and a video with his phone. He then saw the objects ascend along the same path and disappear into the clouds. No noise was heard during the observation. The GEIPAN concluded it was likely a sighting of Thai lanterns. These match the description: red or orange points moving together, typical of the same wind flow. The wind direction was hard to determine, as nearby weather stations reported different directions. The observation duration (10 minutes) also fits with lantern flight. Additionally, weekends are common times for such events. Therefore, the case was classified as a probable sighting of Thai lanterns.
