Summary

In 1979, the National Research Council of Canada received several reports of unidentified flying object (UFO) sightings across the country. One of the most notable cases occurred on November 29, when Susan Van Den Boogaard, a 19-year-old from Richmond, British Columbia, observed an object shaped like an inverted saucer with a grey top and a dull gold bottom. The object was moving slowly from west to east and emitted a humming sound. Although Susan tried to alert her parents, the UFO disappeared a few minutes later. RCMP investigators confirmed there were no other known witnesses and that Susan appeared to be a reliable person and was not under the influence of alcohol.

Another notable incident occurred in December 1979, when Gail Dacey and her children in Alberta reported seeing a bright blue football-shaped object hovering about 20 feet above the ground. Although initially thought to be a UFO, further investigation revealed that the imprints found in the snow were caused by children and not related to the sighting. However, the details provided by the witnesses, including the description of the object and the dog's behavior, suggest the sighting could have been real, although no conclusive physical evidence was found.

These cases, along with other meteorite and atmospheric phenomenon reports, form part of a historical archive reflecting the diverse experiences and observations of the Canadian population during the 1970s.
