🇬🇧 Ministry of Defence
This declassified document from the UK Ministry of Defence addresses several reports of unidentified flying objects (UFOs), particularly in the Rendlesham Forest area in 1980. It includes testimonies from military personnel and RAF officers describing unexplained lights, triangular-shaped objects, and radiation detected in the area. Although the UK Ministry of Defence concluded that the events had no defense significance, the file was the subject of multiple access requests and legal reviews. Part of the content was initially classified, but after appeals and the intervention of the Ombudsman, most of the material was released in 2002.
The file also shows how the UK government handles UFO reports, focusing on national security rather than scientific investigation. It includes letters, memoranda, and responses to inquiries from researchers and media, reflecting public interest in these phenomena. The Rendlesham Forest case, in particular, has become one of the most famous UFO incidents in UK history.
