🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In July 1947, a man in Phoenix, Arizona captured images of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) using a box camera. According to the report, the objects appeared at dusk, spiraling at low altitude before rapidly ascending at a 45-degree angle. The witness claimed one of the objects approached his home, and although no photos were taken during the ascent, images were captured showing the object in motion. These photos were submitted to air force authorities, but photographic experts could not conclusively determine their authenticity or whether they had been altered. The case was investigated by intelligence agents, who also reviewed the witness's standing in the community, finding no evidence of fraud, though noting his interest in advanced technology and science.
The investigation included checks with local organizations, credit records, and interviews with neighbors, who described the witness as a reclusive but respected individual. Despite technical doubts, the case was considered part of the numerous UFO reports of the time, without reaching a definitive conclusion. The photographs remained in classified archives until decades later, when their declassification was considered.
