Summary

In July 1947, an object was found on private property near Jackson, Ohio, and handed over to the sheriff. This device, weighing between four and five pounds, measured 5x9x8.5 inches and was composed of a cardboard box with electronic components. Reports indicate that the object was not a UAP, but a U.S. Army radiosonde. The cardboard box had a message warning to remove a moisture absorbent bag before flight. Additionally, the device was connected to a ventilation duct manufactured by Bendix Aviation Corporation.

The device was associated with a balloon and a parachute, although only fragments of the balloon remained and the parachute was made of crape paper with military markings. A four-wire cable connected the parts of the device, and a small wire resembling an antenna was also found. Although the report concluded it was not a UAP, the object generated curiosity and was analyzed by military personnel. The detailed description of the artifact and its components reveals how military objects were sometimes mistaken for unexplained phenomena during that time.
