🇬🇧 Ministry of Defence
The UK Defense Ministry managed the fate of films and photographs, including those of unexplained phenomena, according to guidelines that deteriorated over time. In 1994, it was confirmed that neither the Public Record Office nor the Imperial War Museum held UFO images. Unselected materials were destroyed, and military units acted independently. Incidents like a reported landing in Woodbridge, controlled by the USAF, and the absence of material in official archives were highlighted.
UFO investigations during this period were fragmented. Although famous cases, such as the alleged abduction of former UN Secretary-General Javier Pérez de Cuéllar, were discussed, these stories lacked official support. Witnesses and ufologists like Budd Hopkins documented experiences, but authorities denied their existence. Theories about extraterrestrials and abductions mixed with rumors, and media coverage treated the topic with skepticism or irony, as in the case of the EU's proposed UFO observatory, rejected by British politicians.
