Summary

In October 1947, two mine operators in Phoenix, Arizona, reported a mysterious object in the sky. The object, described as red against the blue sky and black against white clouds, was moving in a straight line from northwest to southeast at an estimated altitude of 8,000 to 10,000 feet. The witnesses, both with flying experience, observed the phenomenon for about 45 seconds to a minute. One initially thought it might be a buzzard but quickly dismissed the idea. The other compared it to a "flying wing," though it was not a conventional aircraft. The official report noted the apparent contradictions in the descriptions and the lack of sound made a clear explanation difficult.

The official analysis highlighted a contradiction: if the object appeared three feet in diameter at that distance, it would have to be extremely large. This raised doubts about the reliability of the testimonies. However, the witnesses seemed reasonable and experienced, adding an air of mystery to the case. The report concluded there was no clear explanation, but it did not rule out the possibility of human perception errors.
