In October 1947, two mine operators in Phoenix, Arizona, reported a mysterious object in the sky. The object, described as red against the blue sky and black against white clouds, was moving in a straight line from northwest to southeast at an estimated altitude of 8,000 to 10,000 feet. The witnesses, both with flying experience, observed the phenomenon for about 45 seconds to a minute. One initially thought it might be a buzzard but quickly dismissed the idea.
