Summary

In March 1948, several witnesses in Bakersfield, California, reported the sighting of an unidentified flying object. The incident was logged as #108 and described an object on fire, orange-red in color, that appeared static in the sky for about 30 seconds before splitting and burning. Witnesses noted the object was about five miles away and moving eastward, leaving a smoke trail. Although the possibility of it being a flare or rocket was considered, no conclusive evidence was found.

The official report from the Fourth Air Force suggested the object could have been a marker flare, but the possibility of an unknown object was not ruled out. The object, described as larger than a small plane, disappeared behind a water tower, preventing further observation. Despite multiple accounts and similar descriptions, no images or additional data were obtained to conclusively identify the nature of the phenomenon.
