In March 1948, several witnesses in Bakersfield, California, reported a flying object that left a smoke trail and appeared to be on fire. It was described as an orange-red fireball, resembling a small airplane with a zigzag smoke trail. Two observers at the Haberfelde Building confirmed the object, which disappeared behind a water tower. Although possibilities like flares or regular aircraft were considered, no clear explanation was found.
The classified Air Force report documented the sightings and suggested it could be a non-astronomical event, but no evident explanation was found. The investigation did not conclude with a definitive answer, leaving open the possibility of an unexplained phenomenon.
