🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In April 1948, a U.S. pilot in the Philippines spotted an unidentified flying object that disappeared in seconds. The pilot, leading a formation of four P-47 aircraft, saw an object about three miles away at 1,000 feet altitude. He described it as a flying wing-like craft, approximately 30 feet wide and 20 feet long, silver in color, with a visible dorsal fin. When he attempted to intercept it, the object made a sharp turn and accelerated rapidly, vanishing from sight in under five seconds. There was no sound or exhaust trail, adding to the mystery.
The official assessment at the time concluded it was likely a bird, but the pilot's testimony was deemed reliable. The distance and lack of visual details made precise identification difficult. Although other pilots did not confirm the sighting, the pilot remained consistent in his description. This case, like many from that era, reflects the early confusion and interest in unidentified flying objects before systematic UFO studies were established.
