🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In April 1948, two U.S. Air Force officers at Greenville AFB, South Carolina, observed an unusual aerial phenomenon. They saw a white, elliptical object that initially hovered at an altitude between 15,000 and 20,000 feet before rapidly accelerating northward and disappearing within seconds. The witnesses initially thought it might be a weather balloon, but the object's speed and trajectory led them to dismiss that possibility. The base contacted the local weather service, which confirmed no balloons had been launched in the area. Despite investigations, no conventional explanation was found for the incident.
The report includes details such as the object's direction, color, and duration of observation, but no sound or exhaust trail was recorded. The officers submitted a sketch of the object and a detailed account. The case was filed without resolution, and although other explanations like reflections or unidentified aircraft were considered, no definitive conclusion was reached. This incident is part of a series of sightings during the Cold War that sparked debates about the nature of unidentified objects.
