In July 1948, a housewife and her mother in Ohio witnessed an unusual aerial phenomenon. While driving near the Ohio University campus, they saw a group of bright points in the sky resembling stars arranged like the Big Dipper. A main object, described as a giant lantern, floated slowly and emitted black smoke. Other drivers also observed it, but could not identify it.
