🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In August 1948, an ATIC report documented the observation of a bright object in the sky above an airfield in Kentucky. The object, described as silver in color, was moving slowly at a high altitude, between 30,000 and 40,000 feet. Although it might initially seem like an unexplained phenomenon, theodolite readings conclusively identified it as Venus. This case is an example of how observers tried to understand celestial events before UFO reports became common.
The observation was recorded by Air Force personnel and classified as "restricted," indicating that it was considered sensitive information for the time. Despite the clear planetary identification, the report was archived, perhaps as part of an effort to document all unusual aerial events. This document shows how even natural objects could cause confusion and require scientific verification in a period of increasing air surveillance.
