🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In 1948, U.S. Sergeant GMM reported observing an unidentified flying object (UFO) over Los Angeles. According to his testimony, the object was not a shooting star and he followed it using high-powered binoculars. The UFO was described as enormous, larger than a B-29, and moving at an estimated speed of 700 miles per hour. No sound was heard, and the object maintained a straight course without maneuvering. The report, classified under Project "SIGN," requested further investigations to rule out astronomical or meteorological explanations. The document also mentions that weather balloons were considered as possible explanations, but no photographs or sketches were submitted with the report.
The report was distributed to various military units and weather services, including Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Witnesses were asked to provide precise details about the location, time, object characteristics, and any effects on clouds. The document emphasizes the importance of maintaining confidentiality and avoiding any publicity regarding the incident. Despite efforts to identify the object, no clear explanation was found, and the UFO was described as a non-astronomical phenomenon with characteristics similar to a German V-2 rocket, but much larger and faster.
