🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A civilian observer reported in February 1949 a luminous object traveling over the hills near Parkersburg, West Virginia. The witness described an intense white light that transformed into a reddish yellow hue. The object, about four inches in diameter, appeared to spew molten metal droplets from its rear. Although the sighting lasted between 15 and 20 seconds, investigators concluded it could have been a meteorite. The report, part of the Air Force's Project Grudge, found no physical evidence or additional witnesses. The observer, a non-mechanically inclined worker, denied any contact with others, though he noted it was possible other drivers might have seen it.
The description of a fiery ball with molten droplets, combined with the absence of sound or smell, raised questions about its nature. Despite ruling out terrestrial explanations, the official conclusion pointed to an astronomical phenomenon. The case was closed without further investigation, but the detailed testimony and geographic context make it an interesting example of early UFO reports analyzed by authorities.
