A report from May 4, 1949, describes an object observed in Limona, Florida, initially mistaken for the moon. A witness, a 60-year-old public health nurse, saw a bright object with a flaming edge and an irregular tail. The object appeared first the size of a dinner plate and later reduced to the size of a teacup. It moved slowly, up and down and side to side, without emitting sound or leaving a trail. The observation lasted 15 minutes and the object disappeared below the horizon. Although initially considered an astronomical phenomenon, the detailed description suggests an unusual sighting.
The witness, who lived in a house with her dog, was alerted by the animals' barking. Although her estimates of size and speed were considered somewhat imprecise, she was deemed a reliable observer. There were no confirmed additional witnesses, though a similar sighting was mentioned days earlier. The report concluded the object was a natural phenomenon, but the detailed description and unusual movements raise intriguing questions.
