Summary

In May 1949, an Air Force mechanic at Davis-Monthan Air Base in Tucson, Arizona, observed a black, round, flat object that resembled a "flying disc." The witness, who was not colorblind, described the object as the size of a washing tub, with a diameter of three to four feet. The object appeared suddenly in the sky, maintained a constant altitude of around 5000 feet, and moved rapidly from east to west, disappearing behind a hangar. It left no exhaust trail and made no sound, raising questions about its conventional origin. Although the witness alerted others, no one else saw it. The official investigation found no alternative explanations or additional witnesses.

Davis-Monthan Air Base and the Tucson area were thoroughly checked, but no records of private, military, or civilian flights matched the event's description. The weather was cloudy with 50-mile visibility, which did not explain the clear sighting. The report concluded that the object had no visible propulsion, wings, or stabilizers, and moved at an estimated speed of 800 to 1000 miles per hour. While weather balloons or natural phenomena were considered, these hypotheses did not align with the observed details. The case remains unresolved.
