🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In May 1949, several soldiers at Fort Bliss, Texas, observed a bright object in the sky. The object, described as a silver disc the size of a quarter, appeared suddenly 30 degrees above the horizon. Witnesses noted it moved irregularly, with rolling and tilting motions, as it slowly drifted eastward. The observation lasted about five minutes, and while initially seen with the naked eye, some soldiers used binoculars to track it. No photographs or physical evidence were recorded, but the observers were deemed reliable.
The official conclusion was that the object could have been a military aircraft, although none were specifically identified in the area. The object's unusual description and behavior generated some curiosity, but no effects on clouds or noise were reported. The soldiers observed the phenomenon in clear weather with bright sunlight, which aided visibility. Despite no definitive explanation, the report was filed without further investigation.
