Summary

In May 1949, three U.S. Air Force officers at Moses Lake Air Base, Washington, reported a sighting of an unidentified flying object. The incident occurred at 08:45 AM when the observers saw a silver object moving at a very high speed. Although no photos were taken and no physical evidence was found, the witnesses agreed the object did not appear to be a conventional aircraft. The report concluded there was not enough data to rule out it being a C-31 aircraft, but the pilots insisted its speed was unusual.

The object was seen at a distance of 8 to 10 miles and at an altitude between 10,000 and 15,000 feet. It moved in a straight line and disappeared without a trace. Although the official report suggested it could have been an aircraft, the description from the witnesses and the object's speed raised doubts. This case is an example of how even in the 1940s, experienced pilots reported phenomena that could not be easily explained by the technology available at the time.
