🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In June 1949, an army officer at Fort Bliss, Texas, observed a series of unidentified flying objects that appeared square. The witness initially saw four objects, then five, and later three and two. These objects were approximately 3 inches wide, 12 inches long, and 12 inches deep at a distance. They were silver on the underside and had a reddish tint on top. Although they seemed to rock, they maintained a constant altitude. The report concluded they were target planes, but their unusual appearance and description sparked curiosity.
The report includes details of the observation, such as a northerly direction, a duration of two minutes, and an estimated speed of 60 mph. There was no sound or visible trail, and the weather was clear. Despite considering the possibility of test aircraft, the description of the objects did not match conventional models of the time. This case is an example of how 1949 UFO reports were often difficult to classify and generated debates about their nature.
