In July 1949, a witness in Galveston, Texas, observed a luminous object resembling a large star. The object appeared at a 90-degree angle above the horizon and, according to the report, seemed to stop momentarily. This could have been an optical illusion caused by its high altitude and flight angle. The object then disappeared rapidly to the west at an extraordinary speed. Investigators concluded it might have been a meteor, though the witness's description suggests something unusual. The report notes no sound or visible trail, and weather conditions were ideal for observation.
