🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In July 1949, a commercial pilot in Spokane, Washington, reported seeing eight disc-shaped objects. The witness was drawn by a sound similar to a jet aircraft formation. Upon going outside, he only saw a B-29 flying east to west. According to his estimation, the objects were a thousand feet above the B-29, moving in the same direction but at a much greater speed. The objects were larger than the B-29 and left no visible trail. The report concluded they could have been birds, although the B-29 pilot reported nothing unusual. The witness denied drinking and claimed to have good vision.
The case was analyzed by military personnel, who considered the sound and appearance could match a group of birds flying at low altitude. However, the pilot's testimony, along with the detailed description of the objects, generated some controversy. Despite the lack of photographs or physical evidence, the report was filed under the bird hypothesis, though the possibility of an unexplained phenomenon was not completely ruled out.
