Summary

In July 1949, a pilot reported seeing four heavy black puffs of smoke over the Chaplina area. These puffs formed slowly and dissipated rapidly at regular intervals of one to two minutes. Although they did not exactly resemble known anti-aircraft bursts, the possibility of anti-aircraft firing was considered. The report does not mention physical evidence or photographs, adding an air of mystery to the event.

The weather at the time was clear, with unlimited visibility and a blue sky. Despite the lack of definitive confirmation, the officer in charge suggested it could be anti-aircraft activity. This entry in the Project 10073 record shows how even in the 1940s, unidentified aerial phenomena sparked interest and discussion.
