Summary

In August 1949, a rancher in Llano, Texas, reported seeing an unidentified aerial object that appeared to contain eleven quarter moons. The copper-colored object emitted enough light to cast shadows. According to the witness, the object ascended 250 feet in 15 minutes and then moved slowly south for two hours. Although other neighbors didn’t see it, his wife mistook it for the moon. The report concluded it wasn’t a known astronomical phenomenon.

The U.S. Air Force report details an investigation into the sighting, where the witness, a 54-year-old man with a cataract in his left eye, described the object in great detail. Although no conventional explanations, like planes or balloons, were found, the report suggests the witness might have exaggerated due to his interest in astronomy and some unusual beliefs. The case was closed without a definitive conclusion, but it leaves an intriguing record of a 1940s UFO sighting.
