🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In March 1950, multiple witnesses in Orangeburg, South Carolina, reported seeing an unidentified flying object. The event occurred in the late afternoon when a bright object appeared in the sky. Witnesses described it as a slowly moving disk with a vapor trail extending in the air. An army investigator concluded it was likely a contrail from a high-flying aircraft. Despite this explanation, the witnesses agreed the object did not appear conventional.
The report includes testimonies from local journalists and residents who saw the object from different locations. Some compared it to a new sunrise, others to a bright disk moving in an unusual way. Although there was no confirmation of an extraterrestrial craft, the mystery was enough to prompt military authorities to officially document the sighting. This case is another example of how UFO sightings were analyzed during the Cold War era.
