🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In March 1950, Farmington, New Mexico, witnessed one of the most dramatic waves of flying saucer sightings. Thousands of shiny, disc-like objects suddenly appeared in the sky, moving at incredible speeds and performing chaotic maneuvers. Witnesses reported widespread panic, with estimates ranging from hundreds to thousands of objects. The scene seemed like something out of a science fiction movie, with one observer calling it "the greatest exhibition of magnetic flight ever seen in the universe."
However, the explanation turned out to be quite mundane. A Skyhook balloon, launched from Holloman Air Force Base, broke apart at high altitude, releasing thousands of plastic fragments that shimmered in the sunlight. These lightweight pieces scattered across the sky, creating the optical illusion of an alien invasion. Although the incident caused a great deal of alarm, it ultimately proved to be nothing more than a case of mistaken identity.
