🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In April 1950, a 77-year-old woman in Summerville, South Carolina, observed a shiny cylindrical object silently passing over her house. The object, described as a "piece of pipe," was moving slowly at an estimated 150 feet altitude. The witness, who didn't wear glasses, watched it for three minutes under a clear sky. Another man saw it from a nearby pharmacy, though from a distance. Despite the witness's age, her account was considered fairly reliable.
The report, prepared by the U.S. Army, includes multiple testimonies, though names were redacted. The object made no noise and was seen by several neighbors, including a caretaker and some children. A Navy veteran, who served during the war, also described it as moving "pretty fast," though from his position he couldn't determine its size or altitude. This case, classified and later declassified, shows how even in the 1950s, military authorities documented UFO sightings with some interest.
