Summary

In July 1950, an observer in Alaska described a red object with two white dots that appeared to revolve around it. The object, spherical in shape and about three feet in diameter, remained stationary for twenty minutes before exploding. Although initially considered a possible supernatural phenomenon, the investigation concluded it was likely a weather balloon. Witnesses, all trained in aerial observation, agreed there was no noise, visible support, or propulsion, ruling out a conventional aircraft.

Ladd Air Base in Fairbanks documented the incident, and the report was sent to the Director of Intelligence of the USAF. Despite the witnesses being deemed reliable, the origin of the object could not be determined with certainty. Other explanations such as unidentified aircraft or terrestrial bodies were dismissed, but the possibility remained that the balloon had drifted in from another station. The report, classified for decades, was eventually declassified, revealing an intriguing but unresolved observation.
