Summary

In 1950, a civilian pilot reported seeing a bright white spherical object near Brockton, Massachusetts. The sighting happened on August 27 when the witness, an experienced pilot since 1947, was flying at about 1300 feet. He described the object as a sphere approximately 20 feet in diameter, moving at high speed eastward, more than 1000 feet below his aircraft. Although he couldn't estimate the exact speed, he compared it to jet planes he had seen at low altitude. No sound or exhaust smoke was observed, adding to the mystery. The report, dated September 1950, was submitted to the Inspector General of the U.S. Air Force, but no further investigation was initiated.

The case was classified as an air-visual observation with no physical evidence or photographs. The witness, a radio technician at an air station, noted the object had no projections or surface irregularities, making it hard to identify. He also mentioned the object seemed unaffected by the southbound wind. According to the report, the pilot tried to describe the object to a 12-year-old boy traveling with him, but no detailed description was obtained. Despite the clear sighting, authorities took no further action, and the case remains unresolved.
