Summary

In September 1950, several witnesses reported a bright blue object over Fairchild Air Force Base in Washington. An officer, Mrs. Portney, saw a light approaching rapidly from the northeast, so directly that it frightened her. The light passed over the field and then headed toward the base, increasing in size and emitting sparks before disappearing suddenly. Another witness, Lt. Ponsness, observed a similar object moving at low altitude and high speed, without making any sound. Later, a major, Gardinier, described three strange objects behaving erratically, as if they had their own motive power. Observers could not identify the objects, and there were no conventional aircraft or phenomena in the area.

The Air Force classified the incident as a meteor observation, but the accounts share unusual features: objects moving with precision, without sound, and making abrupt directional changes. Descriptions of flat shapes and spark emissions do not fit conventional explanations. Despite no physical evidence or photographs, the coordination among multiple witnesses and the detailed account of impossible movements suggest the case deserves further attention. The official report does not mention any follow-up investigations, but the details remain intriguing for those studying unexplained aerial phenomena.
